West Babylon NY, which is a part of the Town of Babylon, is a census-designated place. The area that is occupied by the Town of Babylon was once referred to as South Huntington. The earliest settler here was Nathaniel Conklin, who moved in with his family in 1803 and named the area "New Babylon" after the historical town of Babylon. The Town of Babylon was officially established in 1872 from portions of the Town of Huntington.
